Hiking in Arizona in the summer requires hiking high to stay cool. Why not get more out of these hikes by being able to identify the conifers that you will see along the way? There are only a handful of species, so everyone can sort them out, if ... If it is so easy, why are there no spruce on Spruce Mountain? Is it a fir or a spruce? Which pine is it? Can I eat it?
We will review all of Arizona’s conifers and learn to use a handy new tool to make their identification easy and reliable. With over 4,000 plants in Arizona, we all could use a little help. Since hiking on Spruce Mountain, Mount Union, the Cabin Loop Trail, the Highline Trail and places like West Fork also involve a number of noteworthy wildflowers, we will take a peek at them too.
